Michael Gove has a “failed vision for education”, Labour said today as it welcomed a U-turn on plans to scrap GCSEs . Shadow education secretary Stephen Twigg urged Mr Gove to apologise to parents and pupils for his attempt to scrap GCSEs and replace them with an English Baccalaureate . He said the plans had been formulated on the “back of an envelope” and urged the Education Secretary to change his ways in the future . Mr Twigg told MPs: “Under this Government, the words GCSE and fiasco seem to be linked indelibly . “This is a humiliating climbdown. The trouble with this Secretary of State is he thinks he knows the answer to everything, so he digs out the fag packet and comes up with his latest wheeze . (source The Telegraph)
